There I was, covered in whatever was washed up on the tideline, the waves lapping at my ‘thankfully’ waterproof trousers with a dog running past me at short intervals kicking sand onto my lens. And I couldn’t have been happier.
This shoot took me to a beautiful beach, but everyone else obviously thought so too, which meant it was a busy beach day. We timed our visit with the receding tide, which I hoped would give us the chance for the dogs to run around in the shallow water, and splash some around themselves in the process, just for dramatic effect.
This plan worked perfectly where the Golden Retriever was concerned. We couldn’t keep him out of the water! He had a great day splashing around at all angles, which gave me plenty of opportunities for some creative shots. With him running around in the water on a sunny, but chilly day, meant there was no one else encroaching on the shots at this end of the beach. (As an aside, no one else seemed to relish the idea of lying around on the tideline either?!)
The Border Collie however was having none of it. She wasn’t keen on the cold water (I didn’t blame her!) so I came up with something a little different where she was concerned. I was a little more challenging but we played a game of fetch with her favourite ball at the busier end of the beach. I had to ensure other people and pets were kept out of the background of the shots, but having done this, she really enjoyed her run around too.
